About the conversation:
Habits & Accountability — For Your Future Self
Small actions. Kept promises. For your future self
A practical, interactive session inspired by James Clear’s Atomic Habits, with accountability ideas drawn from The 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington.
Leave with one small habit, one simple plan and one way to stay accountable.
Choose one small habit
Participants will identify one small behaviour they want to adopt for their future self, in their business or personal life. We will turn a broad intention, such as “be more organised”, into a specific action, such as spending two minutes planning tomorrow before finishing work.Make it obvious and attractive
We will explore the first two principles from Atomic Habits: make it obvious and make it attractive. Participants will consider “What will remind me?” and “How can I make this something I want to do?”, using an existing routine as a trigger and adding something enjoyable to the habit.Make it easy and satisfying
The next two principles help us reduce the effort of getting started and recognise progress. Participants will answer “What is the smallest version I can do?” and “How will I record or celebrate it?”, so their habit has a realistic starting point and a simple way to see completion.Add accountability and a weekly commitment
We will explore how a person, group or regular check-in can help us follow through when motivation fades. Each participant will decide what they will do, when they will start and how they will review it, with the focus on honest reflection and returning to the habit after a missed opportunity.
Business owners and professionals often know what needs doing but struggle to make time for it consistently. This session offers a practical way to build a small routine around priorities such as following up with clients, planning the working day, learning or making time for wellbeing.
Participants will work on their own chosen habit throughout the session and leave with a plan they can put into practice immediately. The approach also gives leaders useful prompts for supportive accountability conversations with their teams.
The session will use discussion and a simple habit-planning handout. The handout will cover the chosen habit, the four principles, a start date and an accountability check-in, with space to write each response.
