Business Networking Meeting - ChatGPT - Is It Any Good For You?

'10 Minute Tip' by Dale Walker-Hyde - Professional ChatGPT User - 7am until 9:15am

Dale Walker-Hyde is an IT industry veteran, having worked in the field since the days of the original IBM PC (and before!)

The past thirty years have been spent advising organisations on IT infrastructure strategy, initially in the field of server and storage systems, then virtual machines and cloud platforms before more recently focusing on the world of cyber security at Cyber One Security.

Whilst his 10-minute tip session won’t cover any of that history and certainly won’t be a technical talk, he has embraced the capabilities of ChatGPT within many aspects of his work and can demonstrate how to save time and leverage knowledge that is out there to enhance anyone’s business operation.

Dale works best with senior IT professionals, particularly information security specialists (e.g. CIO, CTO, CISO, IT Directors, IT Managers) in mid-market firms (200-2000 employees)

Dale is also very keen to help smaller businesses in and around Milton Keynes where he is based.

If you haven’t used ChatGPT yet and would like a quick hands-on session at the end of the meeting, Dale will be happy to hang around for a while.

About the conversation:

Is ChatGPT any good for you?

Discover the pros and cons of ChatGPT with some helpful examples.

What can it do?

You’ve probably heard stories of how ChatGPT has passed Masters Exams at prestigious colleges and even created malware to help bad guys attack our IT systems. Dale Walker-Hyde won’t be exploring those areas, but he will share where he has found ChatGPT invaluable in his professional and personal life.

For instance Dale has used it to help him respond to tenders where there were tricky questions to answer about adding social value to a purely technical exercise to be delivered in a remote community. He also gets ideas for technical solutions that are a little outside his personal specialist areas. How about generating detailed holiday itineraries for a specific set of interests and resolving an argument (quickly!) on sporting history facts without needing to trawl the archives!

Garbage In - Garbage Out

ChatGPT might be the best recent example of this old adage. You have to be a little careful with the questions that you ask to get a good quality answer. Questions that are too general in nature will likely produce an answer that is too high level and of little value. However, well-crafted questions and refinement during the questioning process can yield amazing results, instantly!

Beware!

Whilst the information provided by ChatGPT is usually nothing short of incredible, it must be used with caution. It does not “know about” recent history & events (the past two years) and very plausible looking answers can sometimes be wrong, so need a review or reality check if they are being used in an important manner. Apparently, ChatGPT has also been accused of copyright violations.

You should also be careful not to give ChatGPT any sensitive data as it uses all information provided to continue to train itself so there is a risk of confidential information entering the public domain with uneducated use. Happily this can easily be avoided with a little understanding and good questioning.

In summary, don’t blissfully cut and paste content generated by ChatGPT anywhere important without having it reviewed!

Have Fun

Adding ChatGPT to your repertoire will undoubtedly save you time and has the potential to improve the quality of your work, but can also be great fun. Dale will talk through a couple of examples of how he’s used it in a personal capacity, some with success, some without!

Smaller organisations might not have inhouse expertise to guide on the use of a tool like ChatGPT, but that shouldn’t be a hindrance. It’s actually really easy and just a few minutes guidance from Dale will have you exploring the possibilities for yourself. If you have used it, but are not sure if you’re getting the most out of it then come along to ask Dale how ChatGPT is revolutionising the art of business communications.
